Eccentric Grids: Mapping the Managed Forest: Enumeration and Density is part of an ongoing project that investigates the ubiquitous pine ecosystems of the South. In this piece, I combine small format video and installation, creating a visualization that compares the tree density of managed commercial pine plantations harvesting for both pulp for paper products and board lumber with the natural spacing of the “trunk print” of old growth longleaf pine forests. Special thanks to the UF Forestry Department and the Longleaf Pine Alliance for their guidance on the scaled layout of the stumps on floor in the installation.
